Profile

Jay A. Morgan applies cognitive science to the practice of user experience. Jay takes a scenario-based approach to design, which coordinates UX work into communicable design goals.

Information Architecture

A practice for mapping user goals to business goals. A successful information architecture presents the right information at the right time. Some common Information Architecture practices and deliverables:

  • Content Analysis: reviewing how the current content accomplishes user and business goals
  • Site Maps: the structure and organization of content and features
  • Flow Diagrams: showing the sequential steps of user-business interaction
  • Wireframes: the blueprints of how the interaction unfolds
  • Prototypes: low- or high-fidelity working models for interactive features

User Experience Research

Discovering how people interact with and think about your business and its relationship to their lives.
Some common User Experience Research practices and deliverables:

  • User Interviews: meet people in their natural context, observe their common behaviors
  • User Scenarios: stories about how people interact with your business that guide design decisions
  • Usability Testing: exploratory, assessment, and validation testing
  • Personas: rigorous models for user mindsets and relevant behaviors
  • Mental Models: diagramming how your users think about interacting with your business
  • Features and Functions Matrix to show what’s worth building, how, and why

Developing UX in the Corporate Culture

Your team’s success depends on solving the right problems, setting appropriate goals for the interaction, and negotiating across functional groups.

  • Do all team members agree on where your project is going?
  • Do you understand why you’re changing what you have now?
  • Can you figure out if you’re accomplishing the goals you set?

I combine Information Architecture and User Experience Research to realize your business vision and to set a strategic approach to accomplish it. How I make this happen:

  • Stakeholder and User Interviews where you discover the real goals
  • Business, Content, and User Models to represent the vision
  • Strategic Roadmap to build consensus on how to get from here to there
  • Vision Prototypes to visualize progress on the roadmap
