In October, 2011, I chose to become self-employed, again, this time in Austin, Texas. Picking up where I left off as an independent user experience consultant, I jumped back into UX for enterprise and start-up.
You learn things about yourself along the path of life – fundamental things, the things that make you tick. Every once in a while, you learn something that prevents you from ticking. I learned that being independent affords a unique line of sight into project work. There’s something about being more completely engaged that makes me tick.
There’s something about being engaged as an accessory that prevents me from ticking. Something about me, the way I approach work, and what I need to be in the zone that’s there for me when I’m independent.
